The first cake I ever attempted was in the summer of 2008 for my sisters lady bug themed baby shower to welcome my niece. It was rough but for someone with no experience, it could have definitely been worse. I don’t think I attempted another one for at least two years. Then from time to time I would do a cake for a family or friend’s birthday, which grew into other friends and acquaintances contacting me about cakes and the next thing you know I was doing them on the side pretty regularly. I did them on the side for several years, getting busier as time went by.

 

Finally, in the beginning of 2019 I realized that I couldn’t keep up anymore. I was working three jobs at the time, cakes being just one of them and I was drowning trying to manage everything. I was either going to quit doing cakes all together, or take the leap of faith and put all my efforts into growing it into a full time business. By March of 2019 the decision was made and despite being a single mom with no real savings to fall back on, I took the leap. The one thing I knew, was that failing wasn’t an option, so I didn’t entertain the idea.

 

Since March of 2019, the only person I’ve worked for, is myself. It has been the most trying yet most rewarding thing I’ve ever done (aside from being a mom of course). There has been a lot of Starbucks, sweat, tears, stress and sleep deprivation put into it, but every time I see a happy expression because of something I created…it’s all completely worth it.
